Sonja Poehlmann was born in Cologne, Germany. After finishing school she decided to study art history at the University of Cologne. Although it was very interesting she missed the creative and practical side. She started an internship at a photographer’s studio in Cologne and moved to Berlin to work as a photographer’s assistant (fashion, people, life style and architecture). She also made an internship at the editorial department of photography of a major German newspaper “Die Zeit Leben”. Then she started studying visual communication at University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam and moved to Amsterdam to study “Digital Media Design” at the Utrecht School of the Arts and Graphic Design at Elisava, Escola Superior de Disseny in Barcelona. In 2004 she graduated and obtains a Bachelor degree of Art and technology in Digital Media Design and a Masters degree in Digital Media Design of Utrecht School of the Arts in cooperation with the Open University in London. After graduating she started working at AÄB, a studio for motion graphics and graphic design in Barcelona. She also worked as a freelancer at The Partner and at AIS. She also worked as a stylist for fashion shootings in Dubai together with Kirsten Hermans. Nowadays she does her own projects such as Corporate Identities, Web design, Illustration, Documentaries and Motion graphics in Spain, Germany and The Netherlands. She also teaches at the Advertising and Art Direction department of IED, Istituto Europeo di Design, Barcelona.
